The after school program
Students are divided into groups with an
assigned staff person. Times inside and outside are scheduled & limited
to allow all groups attention to activities.
Inside activities
include learning center activities – lego/block building, art, math &
science discovery, language, computers, Nintendo, board games and movies
only on rainy days.
The outside
playground is designed for school aged children only and includes
basketball courts, four square courts, “hopscotch” space, jump ropes,
swings, climbing apparatus and things to simply sit on and talk around.
Afternoon snack
will include drinks every afternoon. We request students who wish to
bring special snacks bring enough for their group to enjoy. Space on
the playground under shady trees is where students will find picnic
tables.
Manners are
requested at all times by elementary students.
Group arrangement of students is based on
student’s age, stage and request.
Our staff makes
every effort to help students feel comfortable with the group they are
participating with each day.
Please be sure to
share any concerns or questions you may have either by phone or in
person.
Our goal is for parents and students to
be comfortable & happy.

Days OFF from School
During the course of each school year, students
will have days that parents are still working when school’s are closed
for conferences, teacher training or holidays. Schools are also closed
during Christmas break, spring break and summer.
The Student Center
Depot will be open and available on those days.
On single days off
from school, activities are planned at the SCD, which may include a
field trip. We believe field trips should be planned with a purpose
rather than leaving the facility to “just go somewhere”.
Activities are
planned to be fun and educational (when possible). We feel social time
is as important as educational time.
Activity and
curriculum outlines can be picked up in the school’s office prior to
days or weeks when school is not in session.
When parents have
suggestions for activities, we appreciate being given the opportunity to
consider the idea.
SCD pick-up
information
Elementary schools in Manatee County generally
dismiss students at 2:45pm. Our SCD driving staff have a complete list
of student’s names for each school and are trained to know where every
child is before leaving a school.
The Student Center’s buses are driven by
adults licensed as Commercial Drivers License (CDL) in
Florida. The school also uses a 15 passenger van for transportation and
its driver is not required by Florida Statute to have a CDL
License.
Our vehicles undergo annual safety and mechanical
inspections and are equipped with first aid kits and fire extinguishers.
